Both woman and men wore jewelry in ancient Egypt. They not only wore the jewelry as a symbol of wealth and status but they also wore it for a symbol from protection from evil. (Although most Egyptians died with most of their jewelry). Tomb robbers robbed the Egyptians and took the jewelry from the dead bodies and recycled the jewelry.
Gold that was the medal that the Egyptians loved the most. Gold was used a lot during the thousands of years. Bronze was pretty popular too. Sometimes they would put a golden leaf on the bronze. Although they had a lot of gemstones they still mostly used gold I am not saying they did not use gemstones I am saying they used gold more but they still used a lot of gemstones. There was one problem with gemstones they where harder to work with that's the reason gold was more popular.
